Archive for September, 2010
I can’t believe I’m saying this: Fall is here. Yes, it’s the end of September. Yes, the days are getting shorter and nights are getting longer. Yes, temperatures are dropping and leaves are changing colors. Sure, these are the normal signs that happen every year around this time. I guess this year I just feel a little robbed. Our summer was less to be desired… I didn’t even get to go swimming in a lake this year. Didn’t go camping… didn’t hike as much as I would have liked. Due to a conglomeration of unforseen circumstances my summer just didn’t turn out the way I pictured it.
It’s times like these that I have to step back and realize what I did accomplish over the last year. I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing some amazing people. I was able to go to a few beautiful places and expand my art portfolio. I am blessed to live in such a beautiful area of Washington that all I have to do is step out my back yard for incredible photo opportunities.
Yes, Fall is here, along with a plethora of new opportunities awaiting me…
I received a phone call from a very sweet gentleman asking if I was available for a wedding last-minute. It just so happened that my weekend had opened up unexpectedly. He was calling for his niece’s wedding: he actually is a photographer himself but decided he wold prefer to enjoy the wedding instead of having the stress of photographing the event. After a phone conversation and some email correspondence. I was given all of the needed information and sent off my good faith agreement as a promise that I would arrive.
The church was directly across from the Capitol Buildings in Olympia, and we were hoping to get some formal portraits with the beautiful background. The night before the wedding, it was raining quite hard, and all hopes of getting the outdoor shots was going out the window. I didn’t think the bride wanted to have her trash the dress session prior to the wedding! But lo and behold, the morning of the wedding the clouds parted just long enough to get some beautiful shots before the ceremony began.
The ceremony was beautiful, followed by a fun, laid back reception, complete with pizza and sparkling cider!
I have been so lucky to photograph this beautiful young woman on more than one occasion. I took Melissa’s senior pictures some years back, and then was super excited to take her engagement photos in two separate sessions. And of course, after an engagement session, usually comes the wedding… and what a wedding it was!
Congratulations to Melissa and William, and thank you so much for allowing me to capture your beautiful wedding!
Every once in a while we get in the mood for a day trip… and usually end up down on Cannon Beach. This has to be one of my favorite places ever. The beach is never over crowded, people are always in a good mood, the shops are great and the food is better. And of course, there are always amazing photo opportunities both at the beach, and on the drive there and back. Lucky for me, there is lots of shoulder space along highway 101!
